Founded in September 2001 by Carl and Sandra Moller, Swing-Out Edmonton has since been building a community of swing dancers here in Edmonton. We are a non-profit, University of Alberta student group that endeavours to encourage students, non-students, and people of all ages to join our community. We offer lessons, workshops, dances, and demonstrations in the city of Edmonton.
Swing dances are a group of partnered and solo dances — such as charleston, lindy hop, shag, balboa, and peabody, to name a few — that were popular during the swing era. For further information, please refer to Wikipedia:Swing dance and this.
1-year memberships terminating at the end of December 2010 may be purchased at the Tuesday lessons at a cost of $10 for students and $15 for non-students.
Membership is required to register in lessons and club members receive discounted admission to club and certain community social dance events and workshops.
This term, we offer a Beginner class on Tuesday nights in the Education South building (ED S 213).
It runs from 6 pm to 7 pm, beginning January 26. The 8-week lesson series will provide you with all the fundamentals for 6-count Swing and Lindy Hop, plus lots of fun stuff to play with - courtesy of our bad-ass instructors Read and Sierra. Plan to arrive 15 minutes early for registration on the first night.
Cost:, $20 for students, $30 for non-students.
The lesson will be followed by a jam session from 7 pm to 9 pm in ED S 213. The jam session is free if you are registered in the Beginner class. We also welcome all other interested dancers to come and join us for some practice and fun at a cost of $3 for students / $5 for non-students.
Please feel free to come early (and stay late) to socialize and practice what you're learning.
Partners are not required.
Keep a look out for details on our next class series which should be available in September!
