Creative dance is an expressive art which uses spontaneous, improvisational movement and rhythm "as a medium through which one's creative and emotional potential could be drawn out and actualized" (Levy, 1992, p.33). In regards to the relationship between Creative Dance and Dance Therapy, Blanch Evans, a pioneer of Dance Therapy, states that "Creative dance breaks the crust. Dance therapy leads to unravelling the knots, to diagnosis, and to active life, brain and habit change" (Levy, 1992, p. 34). Moreover, dance therapy utilizes a holistic approach that is integral to the conceptual model of Occupational Therapy. Thus, OTs using creative dance as a therapeutic task will aim for goals that are similar to Dance Therapy which "enables a client to express a range of feelings and body states, without direct focus on painful issues" (Levy, 1992, p.44).
