The Department of Comparative Literature, Religion, and Film/Media Studies
The M.V. Dimi} Research Institute for Comparative Literary and Cultural Studies

Official site: M. V. Dimi} Institute at the University of Alberta

The M.V. Dimi} Research Institute for Comparative Literary and Cultural Studies was formerly the Research Institute for Comparative Literature. Founded by University Professor M.V. Dimi}, FRSC, it served for many years as the institutional home for the internationally respected Canadian Review of Comparative Literature/Revue Canadienne de Littérature Comparée, also founded and directed by Professor Dimi}. Over the years, the Institute has organized numerous scholarly conferences, including The World Congress of Comparative Literature in 1993, as well as published some 15 volumes on various aspects of literary scholarship, including Literatures of Lesser Diffusion/Les Littératures de moindre diffusion, edited by Joseph Pivato, Milan V. Dimi} and Steven Tötösy in 1990, and Problems of Literary Reception/ Problèmes de reception littéraire, edited by E.D. Blodgett and A.G. Purdy in 1988; both volumes belong to a series of publications on the literary institution in Canada.

With the amalgamation of departments at the University of Alberta in the late 1980s, the mandate of the Institute has been broadened to include all aspects of cultural production. We hope to have many conferences that will chart this new, expanded vision of the Institute’s activities. There are currently four visiting scholars in the Dimi} Institute, four continuing projects in literary studies, and two major research groups: the Centre for the Cross-Cultural Study of Health and Healing and The Centre for the Study of Religion and Culture. With this inaugural conference for the re-named Institute, we hope to begin a new direction of excellence in humanistic and cultural studies at the University of Alberta. Istra`iva~ki institut za uporednu kwi`evnost i kulturne studije M.V. Dimi}

Blodgett and A.G. Purdy, 1988); obe kwige pripadaju seriji “Publikacije kwi`evnih institucija Kanade”.
