I am an emergency physician at the Royal Alexandra and
University of Alberta Hospitals in Edmonton,
Canada.
My training includes the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeon's
residency in Emergency
Medicine at the University
of Alberta, a Master of Science degree in the Department of Public
Health Sciences, and Medical school at the University of Toronto.
Medicine has allowed me many opportunities to capture beautiful images
through working in beautiful locations, including the Cape Town Trauma Unit
in South Africa, the WHO
research group on STDs and HIV in Nairobi,
Kenya.
I was born and grew up in Camrose, Alberta, and moved to Edmonton to start university in 1991.
Medical school took me to Toronto
in 1993, and I graduated in the class of 9T7. Since then, I've moved back to
Edmonton.
Outside of medicine and photography, I enjoy climbing, running, all
sorts of skiing, and Wing Chun Kung Fu.
The photography that fascinates me the most are people photography
("in context" or "environmental" portraiture) and
nature photography. To me, the most evocative images are compositionally
simple yet convey the message. My most recent focus has been on what I call
"reductionist" imaging, in which I do away with what is not
necessary in the image to get to the heart of what I want to show.
