I was just given a rice cooker but no instructions. The person
who
gave it to me never used it, so they can't help. Can someone help me on this? I know how to cook rice in a regular pot but this is confusing me. I know to put rice and water in the pan, but what about that area under the pan? Should the rice be allowed to soak a while for this method? I've heard people rave about rice cookers so I want to try this out. But at the moment, I'm feeling lost looking at it. If it helps, the cooker is a Salton Cooltouch (Nutritionist) Automatic Rice Cooker and I'm in the USA. Thanks in advance for any help. |

Hi Cybele,
I think what everyone suggested was right-on. A rice cooker is a fairly simple
thing to use. Keep in mind, however, that all machines are different depending
on the maufacturer, and even the size of the cooker.
The best thing to do is definately to experiment with different types of rice
and varying volume of water, depending on the desired final texture. An
important thing to remember is not to leave the cooker on for too long after the
"cooking" phase is finished. Some cookers I have owned tended to "keep warm" at
too high a temperature- resulting in charred rice near the bottom and sides of
the cooking pot. Also, it is important not to use metal utensils to spoon rice
out of the cooker- as this may cause irreversible scratching. I'm sure this tip
would be found in your missing manual: restric yourself to using the plastic
spatula provided.
One last thing: don't be afraid to experiment and add ingredients directly into
the cooker.
Happy rice cooking!
