Nikon Coolpix and Leitz eyepiece vs Optem
set up
Below are 2 photomicrographs comparing different ways
to attach a Nikon Coolpix 990 to a microscope. The first picture
is taken at 4x with in descending order a Nikon Coolpix 990 with a Leitz
10X eyepiece screwed into the lens mount for the Coolpix which was then
inserted into the phototube of the Olympus BH2 microscope.
The second picture also at 4X and from the same case shows the Coolpix
990 attached connected by a an Optem relay lens connected by 2 "connecting
pieces" which sit on top of an Olympus C mount which in turn sits on top
of an Olympus BX51 microscope [Optem relay lens 257014 (screws into lens
mount of camera), Optem connecting piece 257015, Optem connecting piece
29-90-56, Olympus C mount UDA-4E00435]. Both microscopes have "plan"
lenses. I think you will agree that the Optem setup has the image
better centred on the CCD chip. This allows more flexibility with
field of view so you don't always have to be so far zoomed in to remove
vignetting (the circular image). There is also is more uniform
light intensity and more "plan" like focusing across the image.
