English 101 HELP! Download Problems Browser Tips

Problems Downloading a File?

For security reasons, some computer labs on campus do not allow for files to be downloaded. You may want to try a lab in either the Dentistry-Pharmacy, Tory, or Business buildings. Be sure to check the CNS lab schedule for times of access.
Another factor is the Internet Browser you are using to download the file. If you are using a version of Netscape Navigator 3.0 or Netscape Navigator Gold, WordPerfect will not be launched automatically. Rather a plugin prompt will appear when attempting to download a WordPerfect file. Try saving the file to a floppy disk and then opening the file in WordPerfect locally. In most cases this will remedy the problem. If the problem persists, or is not described here, please ask your instructor for help.

You may want to update your current Internet Browser. The English 101 homepage is best viewed using a version of Netscape Navigator 4.0 or higher. Some characters and colours will be slightly different when viewed using MS Internet Explorer 4.0. If you wish to download the latest version of either Netscape Navigator or MS Internet Explorer visit the downloads page.
It could well be that certain properties and applications in your browser are disabled--such as JavaScript. If you are using:

Netscape click on EDIT in your menubar, select the "preferences" option, and a tree menu will appear. You can customize your browser through the modification of these settings. Click on the "advanced" option and an checkbox-menu will appear. Make sure that "JavaScript" is enabled. If it is disabled add it to the list by checkmarking it and then simply exit.

Internet Explorer click on VIEW in your menubar, select "options," and another menu will appear. Select "security," click on the "Security" option, and make sure that "JavaScript" is enabled. If it is disabled checkmark the "Enable Java programs" box and exit.
