This week our focus of discussion is economic globalization and global

trade and finance in particular.  Over the past thirty years, there has been

a trend toward the creation of 'free markets' in both trade and finance.

This developments, however, have been controversial.  In your view,

is a free global market a desirable thing?  What are the costs of a

global market?  What are its benefits?  To help frame this discussion,

listen to this lecture by prominent 'anti-globalization' academic and

activist Walden Bello.  What is Bello's major complaint about neo-

liberal globalization?  Do you agree or disagree with him?  Do you

agree with Bello that globalization has entered a kind of legitimacy

crisis?
