This week we will continue our discussion of security that formed the

core of our lecture and reading material last week.  In preparation for this

week's discussion listen to this episode of the radio program Radio Opensource.

The program deals with the question of 'fear' and the ways in which fear

is often mobilized in relation to the issue of security.  This program was aired

in 2006 to mark the fifth anniversary of the terrorist attacks of September 11

2001.  Listen, in particular, to the first sgement with Dr. Lifton.  In relation

to our lecture discussions last week, do you think that fear is politically

manipulated or is it an objective category?  Is fear over-used in order to justify

particular responses to security threats?  What do you make of Lifton's argument

regarding surivivor mission and response?
