This week in seminar we are going to be discussing mainstream theories in International

Relations.  In particular, we will discuss Politcal Realism and Liberalism.  To help you

discuss these two theories, and to begin thinking about the similarities and differences

between them, please read two case studies relating to the 1991 Gulf War.  The case

studies include this one relating to a realist analysis of the conflict and this one relating to

a liberal analysis.

BONUS preparation.  Although it is not mandatory, if you want to reflect further on the

differences between liberalism and realism, take a listen to this BBC program relating to

the question of human nature.
