Laboratory of Intelligent Manufacturing, Design and Automation (LIMDA)

is an excellence centre for "Design and Manufacturing" which bridges the gap between fundamental research and their advanced applications to industry (particularly Industry4.0), led & founded by Dr. Rafiq Ahmad (Asst. Professor). The aim of the research group is, "Hybrid and Smart systems design and development to enable Industry 4.0". The three major research orientations include Hybrid Manufacturing and Remanufacturing, Design of systems and Industrial Automation (Robotics).

The research orientations are divided into three major areas:

Hybrid Manufacturing and Remanufacturing (CNC machining, 3D-Printing, Laser-assisted additive manufacturing and repair, Reverse Engineering & Hybrid ERP-Lean Manufacturing):

Design and development of systems for hybrid and smart manufacturing. This include, hybrid manufacturing i.e. combined additive and subtractive technologies, intelligent manufacturing & control of CNC machining, 3D Printing (multi-colour, multi-material, freeform surfaces), Intelligent process design for Remanufacturing, Rapid Reconfigurable Manufacturing systems, Micro-machining, Laser additive and joining, Hybrid ERP-Lean manufacturing, topology optimization




Intelligent systems design and development for Industry 4.0:

Sustainable design of both product and innovate manufacturing systems to produce it with high level intelligence, interoperability and transparency. This include, Machine and system design for construction and food automation, Software system design and development for data collection and integration, Design for X (Manufacturing, Assembly, Disassembly, Hybrid Manufacturing and Additive Manufacturing).




Industrial Automaton (Robotics):

Intelligent system design and development for smart and safe manufacturing. This include, Robot design and prototyping (manipulator and parallel kinematic), intelligent system development for assembly & disassembly (maintenance), mechanical and mechatronics systems design for industry 4.0, vision and knowledge-based systems, path planning, human-robot collaboration (HRC) and multi-pass welding, cladding and additive manufacturing.
