Nowadays, monitoring and instrumentation are the inevitable parts of the ground control and back analysis. Accordingly, in this lab, we are working to develop new monitoring methods and practical instruments to enhance the underground mining methods.

In this lab we are developing monitoring systems based on radar imaging. Radar imaging is based on transmission and reflection of electromagnetic pulses. The material, size, shape and distribution of rocks changes the properties, amplitude and phase, of reflected and transmitted electromagnetic pulses. Having radar as the monitoring system provides the opportunity to look into the properties of the mining area in advance to get the right mining direction and ore estimation.

We have designed radar imaging systems for oil reservoir monitoring including oil wells, with concrete and metal casings, and heavy oil reservoir. This radar system is capable of capturing the steam chamber growth over time which is very valuable for reservoir engineers. We have already developed lab prototype radar systems for different monitoring purposes which are ready for industrialization.
