PHILOSOPHY 250: ETHICS

An historical introduction to moral philosophy. Topics include the nature of virtue, duty, and the good life-whether there are universally valid standards for them, how they are connected with the happiness of oneself and others, and with the cultivation of some intellectual and character traits as opposed to others, what sorts of relations to family, friends, and political community they require, and what role reason, experience, and feeling should have in moral decision.
