Members of NASA have observed for many years that other unions have stewards/employee representatives who act on their behalf in areas of grievances and other workplace concerns. These members are trained by their union to be able to interpret their contract and to intervene, when appropriate, on collective agreement violations. Our negotiators set the issue of stewards aside until NASA could discuss them in detail. This occurred at the Joint Forum and the results of that forum are described in the "Report on the June 8 Joint Forum on Stewards"

Most recently, NASA held its Annual General Meeting and, as part of the discussions on bargaining, the following resolution was approved by the members:

MOVED that the Bargaining Team incorporate, as a priority, the following principle in the Collective Agreement currently being negotiated:

That NASA Stewards be recognized as the official representatives of the union in the workplace and have time-off with pay to investigate and provide representation for any and all work related concerns.
