Adjudication Committee

Responsibilities: The Adjudication Committee is an advisory committee to the Board of Governors and is responsible for:

  • reviewing grant applications submitted to the Centre for full or partial funding according to standard   SSHRC procedures;
  • consultation with appropriate federal department or agency when proposals plan to make use of federal data sets; 1
  • ensuring effective integration of the grant applications with the Centre's research mandate;
  • assessing the Principal Investigator's ability to complete the project successfully;
  • safeguarding high levels of research excellence within the Centre;
  • making funding recommendations to the Board of Governors through the Director (Co-Director).

Membership: Adjudication Committee members will be appointed by the Board of Governors and will include the Director (Co-Director), a representative each from the Consortium Universities, a Federal partner representative, an NGO representative, minimum of one academic researcher not affiliated with the Centre, and additional members as approved by the Board of Governors on the recommendation of the Director (Co-Director); members are nominated by the Director (Co-Director) after consultation, and appointed by the Board of Governors.

Conflict of Interest: Committee members are ineligible for PMC funding during their term of office.

Term: Maximum of two years.

Chair: The Adjudication Committee is chaired by the Director (Co-Director).

Quorum: A quorum shall be not less than one-half of the members who, with the exception of federal partners, may not appoint substitutes. Federal partner substitutes are expected to review all grant applications and relevant grant application materials before attending the meeting.

Meetings: A minimum of twice per year.
