The Long Coated GSD Puppy

 

When evaluating a litter of puppies, many people have difficulty separating the "plush" coated puppy from the long coated puppy. Here are some examples of long coated puppies.

These are two long coated puppies from the same litter. At the time of evaluation the one on the left (Etikett/Rosalee) was definitely a long coat, while the one on the right (Ekstase/Tassie) was considered a "maybe." An adult Tassie is pictured on LongCoat.htm. An adult Rosa Lee can be found on Compan.htm and on ELitter.htm

Here are front views of the same puppies seen above Etikett on the left, Ekstase on the right. Note the amount of hair on the front legs and the general fluffiness of the face compared to their litter brother below.

Here are the same views of a short coated puppy from the same litter (Eichen/Ike). Photos are at 7 weeks of age.
