BA (Hons.) (Anthropology and Psychology) from York University, Canada and DPhil (Biological Anthropology) from Oxford University, England. Teaching areas are in the anthropology of modern Japan; science, technology and society, and science and culture. Research interests are in the anthropology of science and modern Japanese society; historical archive of Imanishi Kinji; interpretations of marginalisation of scholarship outside Euro-American centers.

Hobbies include historical scientific biography, exploring Mexico, various outdoor activities and romping with her giant schnauzer (TH) 'Huxley'.
