Solving
the "WhoDunIt?" by Marion
RexGrade 6 science students will write descriptions
for three "suspects", then choose one to be the culprit
of a "WhoDunIt?" mystery. The data will be input into
a database with the first two suspects being red herrings and
the final suspect being the subject of the crime being investigated.
Students will exhange stories and query the database using clues
from the crime.

is a four part activity for Grade 6 science including a
web-based research component (WebQuest) and a word processing
creative writing assignment, an in-class activity sharing stories
and a night time observation component.
Needles
and Trees by Chris
Jackson Students in grade 6science will develop
a project-based resource to compare the species of trees, coniferous
to deciduous in the student's immediate community with another
community and with a number of other locations in different climatic
regions. Students will predict the predominant tree type for communities
in different climatic and physical regions of North America and
test their predictions via surveys.
Discovering
Wetland Ecosystems
by Joan Chambers Over
the course of this unit, grade 5 science students will
develop an understanding of and appreciation for wetland ecosystems.
Through such activities as field observations of a wetland site,
concept mapping, building and querying databases, and researching,
students will learn about the interconnectedness of an ecosystem,
adaptations, life cycles and a food web of the organisms in a
wetland.

Community in the Past - Life as a Pioneer by Linda Melnyk
This project will allow grade 3 students to use technology
to explore life in the past, in Alberta, from the 1800's to the
early 1900's when Canada became home to thousands of immigrants.
They will explore the reasons pioneers came to Canada, how they
traveled to their new home and everyday life as a pioneer.

Well Do People Live?

Over the course of this long-term project, grade 9 students
will engage in a number of individual, small group and whole group
activity and inquiry tasks to discover the meaning of quality
of life and standard of living, how these measures are determined,
and what the measures mean to people in various countries. The
students will participate in a collaborative discovery process,
utilizing technological skills within the regular language
arts and social studies curriculum.
Culture
Through the Decades by Susan
Mackey The intent of this study is to help grade 7 students
further develop an understanding of culture. By studying the culture
of a particular decade students will develop a basic understanding
of the unique qualities of each decade. Students will conduct
research on a decade of the 20th century. They will create a concept
map and a PowerPoint presentation based on their analyses of the
concept map. In language arts they will write a diary entry
from the viewpoint of a teenager from their decade or create a
poem expressing what life was like in the decade.

Bird Species by Long Mu
This is a classroom project on the topic of Endangered Bird Species
for grade 7 science students. The assignments will require
students to use MS Access to develop a database, Netscape Composer
to create a Netsteps web site, and MS PowerPoint to prepare a
multimedia presentation.

Marlin This activity will comprise two lessons
for science 9, specifically Unit C: Environmental Chemistry
in the proposed curriculum resource draft. The first lesson is
a WebQuest internet activity to gather information about the chemistry
of water pollution. The
second lesson requires students to create a concept map that illustrates
their understanding of water pollution.

Producing
a Commercial by Lorraine
Moreau Students of a Television Arts 15 class will
spend four months applying knowledge of production values and
target audience towards the creation of a commercial campaign
for the school cafeteria. The students will design and administer
a market survey of the cafeteria and use the results in the development
of a TV commercial that meets the needs of that target audience.
Poetry
as a Gateway to Hypertext and Literacy by Blaine
E. HattEnglish 30 students will be involved in a complex
thinking process wherein the skills of content / basic thinking,
critical thinking and creative thinking will be applied to an
indepth investigation of hypertext and traditional literacy.
Careers
Using Mathematics by Rod
McBeathGrade 10 math students will research various
careers that use mathematics, such as engineers, carpenters and
machinists. They will use the Internet, concept mapping and PowerPoint
to prepare presentations for fellow students.
