Benedikte Naubert (1756-1819) was the most prolific German writer of her time. She wrote folk tales, historical novels as well as other works. Her folk tales are scheduled to appear in a new edition in the spring of 2001: Benedikte Naubert, Neue Volksmärchen der Deutschen. Ed. by Marianne Henn, Paola Mayer und Anita Runge. Göttingen: Wallstein Verlag, 2001. This completely new edition will include an extensive commentary, an editorial report, a history of the printing and publication of the texts, a literary biography of the author, the reception of the folk tales, a history of the genre and the poetics of the folk tales in the 18th century as well as an introduction into Naubertís narrative approach. The launching of the edition took place in Göttingen on July 12, 2001 and was accompanied by readings and lectures. Another event, including an exhibition on the author and her work, is planned for September 28, 2001 in Naumburg. For further information please contact: Marianne Henn
