International Dark Matter Day
For over a century, physicists have had strong cosmological evidence that the normal matter that we interact with every day only accounts for 15% of what the Universe is made up of. What is the other 85%? We call this dark matter: completely invisible mass that exists all around us. We know it exists, but what exactly is it? That part we don't know! This is one of the biggest open questions of modern physics.
International Dark Matter Day is an opportunity to explore this mystery. We are excited to announce that the Department of Physics at the University of Alberta is bringing together world-class scientists for a dynamic two-day event this October. Join us for an exciting cosmic journey of talks, demonstrations, and discussions, and discover how astroparticle physicists are searching for one of the greatest mysteries of our Universe. An overview of the schedule for this event is given below.
