  • This course provides an introduction to the key concepts of quantum information, and their application in quantum technology and quantum computing.
     
    The lecture is intended for all interested students who want to get an overview of the field and follow current trends, undergraduate or graduate, experimentally or theoretically inclined, from physics or adjacent areas. Students are expected to have a basic knowledge of quantum mechanics as it is taught in an introductory course such as PHYS 372. However, the course will be self-contained and introduce all relevant concepts.
     
    Topics include: Qubits and Hilbert Space, Physical Realizations, Entanglement, Important Theorems (including Bell, No-Cloning, Kochen-Specker), Quantum Computing and Algorithms, Quantum Error Correction

Literature

  • Several excellent books on quantum information and its applications already exist. I encourage students to browse the University of Alberta online library and find the ones they like best. The lectures will follow my own lecture notes and slides, which will be posted on Canvas, and as such are independent of any specific textbook.
