5.1.1 Consolidation by applying surface load
When reconstituted clayey soils are consolidated by applying large load onto the ground surface under the ordinary gravitational condition, one may obtain almost uniform distribution of pre-compression stress with depth. In the case shown above, the load is imposed by means of pneumatic cylinder through a stiff plate.
