Estimation of undrained shear strength

The figure shows variation of undrained shear strength with depth obtained from in-flight cone penetration tests, vane tests at the laboratory floor and water contents measured after test (i.e. at 1 G). Relationship between cone tip resistance, applied vane torque and water content and shear strength of the clay have to be established in advance to determine the coefficients in the equations. It can be seen from the figure that almost identical strength profile obtained from these three methods.
