Principal Research Engineer for Database System

Overview

In this role, you are the technical visionary responsible for the direction of the database cloud services team. You will do research for the new product and provide proposal with little direction from Senior Manager or CTO. And lead the architecture of innovative cloud database system.

Responsibilities

You will perform a wide range of duties including:

• Identify near-line and future technologies industry trends, and market opportunities that require technology and product innovation in the database system domain
• Define the next generation product to help enterprise customers succeed by leveraging cloud database technologies.
• Establish the working relationship with account manager, product manager, and key customers in the new product proposal, prototyping and validation stage.
• Work on the most challenging problems in the product and proposes new or changed designs at whole product design and architecture level, as well as by leading a group of other developers.
• Drive critical technology choices through research, investigations, and technology evaluations. Researches and clarifies product requirements by interacting with customers, product management or other senior people.
• Propose technology and architectural roadmap for key components of the products that advances product competitiveness in the market or addresses major product gaps or limitations. Analyzes technology and architectural choices and presents to engineering and product management for review.
• Propose and implement quick prototypes to validate technology or architectural choices, with interactions with customers or prospects as needed. Drives the design and implementations of early versions of a new product together with engineering management.
• Write and communicate architecture for common components and frameworks to other senior researchers.

Qualification Requirements:

Key qualifications you hold include:

• 10+ year’s extensive experience in leading the design and implementation of database systems. Widely recognized focal point of leadership and go to person across different product groups among relevant teams in R&D, QA and support.
• Deep understanding and experience on one or more main stream SQL and NoSQL database like MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle, DB2, SQLServer, MongoDB and etc.
• Deep understanding and experience on industry RDS services like AWS RDS, Azure SQL Database and etc.
• Successful and proven experience in database engine new feature research.
• Highly innovative DNA with extreme passion and ability to create, design and implement creative and ground breaking ideas.
• Can serve as an anchor in solving the most complex technical problems. Role model for other developers across teams.
• Have strong self research capability and learn new technology/product quickly.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills to interact with both internal and external people.
