Eliminating "Print Through" in Scans

Do your scans of pictures in books or magazines suffer from "print through"? When I worked as a photographic technician for the Department of Art and Design, the job sometimes involved copy work and I made color slides from pictures in books or magazines. I noticed that if there was a light area in the picture and a dark area or type on the same area of the back side of the page, a mirror image of the dark area or type would appear in the light area of the picture I was copying. With a bit of deduction, I reasoned that if I placed a black sheet of paper immediately behind the page I was copying, the print through would disappear. It worked beautifully and I use the same technique when I am scanning an image on a flatbed scanner.
