The Universiade Pavilion, better known as "the Butterdome". The Pavilion is one of three buildings that make up the Van Vliet Physical Education and Recreation Centre. Built in 1983 for the World Universiade Games and the University's 75th Anniversary, the Pavilion is an amazing facility containing not only full-scale facilities for track and field events, but also facilities for numerous other sports including volleyball, basketball, tennis, badminton, gymnastics, soccer, and European handball. It is also used by thousands of students and staff for intramural activities. Above the main entrance is the Pavilion tower containing offices, lounges, the Faculty of Physical Education and Recreation General Office, and the Department of Athletics Office.
