Paper accepted! A manuscript written by Jesse Dean, Joanna Clair-Auger, Olle Lagerquist and Dave has been accepted for publication. The article, entitled "Asynchronous recruitment of low threshold motor units during repetitve, low-current stimulation of the human tibial nerve" will appear in an upcoming issue of Frontiers in Human Neuroscience!

Diana Le is presenting a poster at the Students' Union 4th annual Undergraduate Research Symposium! She is presenting the findings from her summer work. The experiments explored the brain's contribution to contractions generated by NMES.

Today is USchool day! Two classes of students from Edmonton elementary schools visited the lab today to learn about neuroscience. We had lots of fun with the students who were enthusiastic in helping us make "muscle music" and with our other experiments.

We welcome Emily Ainsley to our lab! Emily has a Bachelor's degree in Kinesiology. She will be involved with many experiments in our lab.

Dave is in Brazil to attend the V Symposium on Applied Neuromechanics conference at the University of Caxias do Sul. He was invited to speak by Marco Aurélio Vaz, Professor at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul. Dave will give talks and host a workshop on FES.

Mariska Booyens has joined our lab! Mariska is a Master's student and will be with us to collect data and finish her Master's degree. Mariska is studying the effect of a plyometric protocol on muscle potentiation.

This weekend we went to Neurohike! Dave, Matheus, Leilani, Jenny and Emily attended the Alberta Motor Control Association XLV Neurohike Meeting in Kananaskis. Matheus and Jenny gave presentations that were well received.

Best wishes Austin! Austin Bergquist has been with our lab since his undergraduate days and now he is going to the University of Toronto for a postdoctoral position. We hope to collaborate on more experiments in the future!

Paper Accepted! Our latest paper, authored by Alyssa is titled, "The pulse duration of electrical stimulation influences H-reflexes but not corticospinal excitability for tibialis anterior". The article will appear in an upcoming volume of the Canadian Journal of Physiology and Pharmacology.

We hosted Mr. MacDougall's fifth grade class from St. Pius X for a session of muscle music and other neuroscience experiments. The audience was enthusiastic and we all had a lot of fun. We hope it was a great learning experience for all.

Two new summer researchers! We welcome Leilane Rocha Pinheiro and Diana Le to our lab! Leilane is an Undergraduate student from the Universidade Estadual do Sudoeste da Bahia in Brazil as part of the Science without Borders program. She will assist Matheus with data analysis of twitch torrque data. Diana is a pharmacy student who will be working in our lab this summer with funding from the URI program. She will be a great help in helping Yoshi with the subthreshold TMS study.

Jenny Lou is headed to Montreal! Jenny will be in McGill University this summer to work as part of a Canada wide scholarship! For the first summer in many years, she will not be assisting with the research in our lab and will be missed.

We have been visited by another two groups from the USchool program. As always we made more "muscle music" and we are pleased to host all groups that are fascinated by neuroscience.

Two groups from the USchool program visited our lab as part of a weeklong series of demonstrations at the U of A. It is always enjoyable to explore "muscle music" and we hope the participants enjoyed the sessions as much as we did.

We wish Dr. Aldayel and his family a safe journey back to Saudi Arabia. It has been a year since Abdul's arrival as a visiting professor and he has assisted in our experiments and collected much data in that time. We hope you and your family had an enjoyable stay in Canada and we hope to collaborate on another project in the future.

We were visited by two groups from DiscoverE's GEM Club. The GEM club group members were girls from grades 3 -5 with an interest in science and technology. We had lots of fun and we thank you for the note with "52 reasons why we should visit Dr. Dave again." We look forward to future demonstrations for the GEM Club.
