Summer is over and the Fall semester has started. This year in the lab we have Austin Bergquist (PhD student), Yoshino Okuma (MSc student) and we would like to welcome Andrea Bui as our new part time lab manager.Welcome back!

Congratulations to Cam Mang for the successful defence of his MSc thesis today. Cam is going to stay on in the lab as a research assistant over the next year and is exploring his options for a PhD in 2011. Good luck Cam in all your future endeavours!

The whole lab crew has just returned from the EPOWC meeting in Regina. Dave was a keynote speaker and gave a talk about "Electrical Stimulation of Human Muscle: How and Why?" Austin, Cam, Yoshi and Sarah all gave excellent talks. It was Lisa and Sarah's first scientific meeting. We would particularly like to congratulate Sarah on receiving second place in the competition for best undergraduate presentation for her talk about how playing Guitar Hero affects cortical excitability.

Congratulations to Dr. Joanna Clair!! Joanna successfully defended her PhD thesis today. Dr. Clair is going to do some sessional teaching in the Faculty of Physical Education and Recreation in the upcoming year and we wish her all the best success. We will miss you.

Dave has just attended the Motoneuron Meeting 2010 in Paris where he was invited to present some preliminary results from Yoshi's MSc thesis. The talk was entitled "Does the motor cortex contribute to “self-sustained” firing of human motoneurons? (co-authors Cameron Mang and Yoshino Okuma).

Austin and Dave have just returned from the ISEK Meeting in Aalborg, Denmark. Dave was invited to speak at a special symposium on Electrical Stimulation for Testing and Training in Exercise and Sports. Austin presented a poster entitled "M-wave, H-reflex and asynchronous motor unit activity evoked by NMES applied over a nerve and over a muscle"

We would like to welcome Sarah Roshko and Lisa Ellison who will be working in the lab for the summer. Lisa will be helping out as a part time volunteer and Sarah received a full time NSERC summer studentship.

Congratulations to Cameron Mang on the authorship of his first publication! "Changes in corticospinal excitability evoked by common peroneal nerve stimulation depend on stimulation frequency" will be published in future issue Experimental Brain Research. Good work Cam!
