Joanna and Dave are back from Chicago. It was a brief trip but things are coming together for Joanna's extended visit in February. Thanks to all those who made our trip such an enjoyable experience!

Joanna and Dave will be in Chicago from Wednesday-Friday this week to visit Dr. JPA Dewald at Northwestern University. They will be planning experiments (muscle stimulation after stroke) that Joanna will be conducting there from February-July.

We have just returned from a "Neurohike" meeting in Jasper, the XXXVI meeting of the Alberta Motor Control Group. This was a particularly special meeting as it was a celebration of the outstanding career of Dr. Keir Pearson and many of his colleauges from over the years were in attendance. Jesse, Olle and Dave presented some recent data. Much scientific discussion and socialising were enjoyed by all.

A new academic year has started and we would like to welcome Austin Bergquist as a new MSc student in the lab. Also, a quick hello to Lisa Y. ;).

Joanna, Jesse, Olle and Dave have returned from Australia. They attended the "Motor Control at the Top End" meeting in Darwin. The meeting was excellent and the presentations were well received.

Dave and Olle leave on Sunday for 2 months in Australia. They will be conducting some experiments in Sydney (Prince of Wales Medical Research Institute) with Dr. Simon Gandevia. Joanna and Jesse will be joining them in July to attend a meeting ( Motor Control at the Top End) in Darwin. Dave will also attend the International Brain Research Organization World Congress of Neuroscience in Melbourne.

Today we had two groups from the Junior Kindergarten division of the Child Study Centre (Faculty of Education) visit the lab to learn about muscles. We talked about how our different muscles move the body and many of the students "watched" and "listened" to their muscles contracting using our EMG system. Good fun was had by all! See pictures.

We would very much like to thank Dr. Steven KH Aung for presenting the lab with his painted interpretation of a Ramón y Cajal drawing of "motor pathways" through the nervous system. The painting now hangs proudly in the lab where it adds a welcome splash of colour and is sure to bring good fortune for data collection for many years to come! Thank you Dr. Aung!!

Happy New Year! We hope you all had an excellent holiday and are recharged and ready to take on 2007. Things are busy in the lab right now with several papers in the final stages of preparation and some new projects about to get started.
