CFD-Lab

Most of Dr. Lange's research activities centre around the CFD-Lab, which he founded in 2001. They range from simulations of the lung, such as drug deposition, airway surface liquid concentration of deposited drugs, aerosol generation from cough, to simulations of winds and the water cycle on Mars.

Other Research Activities

ISSET

In December, 2003, Dr. Lange organized with Dr. Herd (Earth & Atm. Sciences) the first meeting of the UofA Space Exploration Group, an informal gathering of faculty members interested in Space Exploration. The group continued to meet and to grow, with active support from the VP-Research office. In September, 2004, Dr. Chris and Dr. Lange organized the first UofA Space Exploration Symposium with two invited speakers, Bjarni Tryggvason of the Canadian Space Agency, a Canadian Astronaut and mechanical engineer, and Doug Ming of the NASA Johnson Space Center, a member of the Mars Exploration Rover Team, and a geologist and mineralogist.

Seeking to formalize the activities of the group, I assisted in the creation of the UofA Institute for Space Science, Exploration and Technology (ISSET) in 2007 and serve now as member of ISSET's Executive Committee. ISSET continues to organize annually the Space Exploration Symposium.
