A Working Alone policy must be posted in the Laboratory and must be part of your Onsite Orientation.

If a lab staff needs to work after hours or on weekends, a working alone plan (EH&S template ) must be created.

NOTE:  When the University Calendar says “University Buildings Closed” that means no students or staff should be in those buildings, and all non-essential and high hazard work should be avoided.

(In those times there is not proper support on the campus to handle an emergency promptly if one occurs)

EHS has an app for auto check-ins on staff working alone called ‘UofA Safe’ and is available on Google play store and Apple app store.

Number one rule is to try not work alone at all, but if you must; this plan will help you.   Make sure you have a “buddy” system.

Guidelines   - To follow the requirements mandated by the Alberta OH&S Act, Reg. & Code.
