Alex Abboud

Hello, my name is Alex Abboud and I serve as a Students' Union Councilor for the Faculty of Arts. Students' Council is the highest decision making body of your Students' Union, and it is my responsibility to represent the interests of Arts students to this body. I also serve on two sub-committees of Students' Council, the Academic Affairs Board, and the Audit Committee.

Throughout this year, I have been one of the more active members of Students' Council. I have been one of the more vocal members of Council in Question Period, making sure our executive is accountable and acting in the best interests of students, as well as on many of the larger issues that have come before Council. I was an outspoken proponent of both the ‘Separation of Powers' motion and the ‘Multi-Year Tuition Deal.'

I have also taken initiatives in legislating. In July, I moved to begin a public awareness campaign against the (then) proposed Bill 43, the province's new Post-Secondary Learning Act. I was also involved in the creation of the Audit Committee with Business Councilor Adam Cook, and introduced amendments to our elections bylaws that provide formal guidelines for by-elections.

For the remainder of my term, I look forward to continuing to be an effective representative of Arts students, ensuring that the decisions Students' Council makes are in our best interests. I also look forward to hearing your concerns, and making sure they are heard by our organization.
