Faculty, graduate students, and independent scholars are invited to submit abstracts for 15-minute papers on any aspect of corpus linguistics. Papers are welcome from a range of subfields, including corpus linguistics and endangered languages, corpus creation, open source corpora (philosophy and practice), corpus annotation, linguistic analyses of corpora, visualization of large data sets, register/genre variation, lexicography, parallel corpora, tagging and parsing, software development, and the use of corpora in language learning and teaching.
Abstracts are due May 1, 2009. Abstracts should 200-300 words in length and must be submitted through the Abstract Submission service of Linguist List: http://linguistlist.org/confcustom/aacl2009/. Abstracts will undergo anonymous review. Please submit abstracts as PDF files if they contain any specialized fonts.
The conference organizers request that authors limit themselves to presenting only one paper, and to being the first author on only one paper. If several submissions are planned in which one individual appears as a co-author, please ensure that these guidelines are followed.

A networking event for graduate students and post-docs attending AACL has been organized for the evening of Saturday, October 10, 2009 by the Linguistics Graduate Students Association at the University of Alberta:
"This Graduate Student Networking Event is open to all (and only!) graduate students and post-docs at AACL 2009. The event includes a talk by Dekang Lin from Google ("Unsupervised Acquisition of Lexical Knowledge from N-Grams"), to be followed by a Q and A session on being a computational / corpus linguist outside of academia. Finally, there will be a chance to network with others in your field over refreshments and drinks. Graduate students who are not registered at AACL will need to pay a $10 door charge. We hope you will join us." – the Linguistics Graduate Students' Association.
