From your workstation | At the laser printer station | Trouble-Shooting

1. At your workstation you should save your work prior to sending it to the printer. Each workstation is connected to a network which is operating the software and the required print drivers for your application.

If you are doing an information search at one of the library PAC stations, make sure you note where you found the information before sending it to print.

2. Send your print job in the same manner that you would send any print job. You will notice that the default printer will be the network printer. If you are printing from a library PAC station, you might have to confirm the print job name before it will be realeased. Your print job should have the same name as the workstation you are at.

3. Once you have sent your print job to the printer, go the printer station located near the CNS lab or library PAC station that you are working at. At the printer station you will see a keyboard, mouse and a monitor displaying a screen similar to the one below.

4. Check that there are no print jobs residing in the printer buffer. A flashing red light at the front of the printer indicates that a print job is waiting in the print buffer. If it's not your print job in the buffer, DO NOT SWIPE YOUR CARD. Press the reset button to clear the printer buffer first.

If you swipe your card without clearing the buffer, you will pay for someone else's print job. There are no refunds for this.

5. Select the print job that you want to send to the printer. Your print job will have the same name as the workstation that you sent it from.

6. Click the faucet icon to release your print job.

7. Swipe your card through the ONEcard reader. Your account will be debited for each sheet of paper that goes through the printer. Your account will stay open until you press the end key on the ONEcard reader's keypad. If you fail to press the end button on the ONEcard keypad, other print jobs will continue to be charged to your account. There are no refunds for printing other people's print jobs.

Printing other people's work: press the end button on the ONEcard swipe unit to disengage your account. Press the red reset button on the printer to clear the other print jobs. Resend your print job. Make sure that the red light at the front of the printer is not flashing prior to selecting and sending your work.

Print queue is frozen: there may be jobs that are "clogging" the queuing software. Hi-light the problem print jobs (they may be in a different color) and click on "Job Control". Select "Kill" and then select "Remove". This step must be repeated for each problem print job.

Civil Engineering Printers: The ONEcard printers in Civil Engineering (room 104 and 110) are different than other ONEcard printers on campus. There are two common recurring problems:

  • The printer askes for Manual Paper to be loaded.
  • Print jobs are resident in the print buffer (flashing orange light).

If the printer is asking for manually fed paper you must delete that print job at the printer and return to your work station. Change the paper settings in your application. The manual feed option on the printers in Civil Engineering have been removed. If you are using a Microsoft product, look under "File ->Page Setup" to locate paper source. The top item on the paper source list "Default Auto" should be selected.

If there is an orange flashing light on the front of the printer there is a print job still in the print buffer. If you do not want to pay for someone else's print job, you must delete the job from the printer buffer before swiping your ONEcard.

    • Press the large "PRINT/IF" button on top of the printer
    • Press the "print" button on the touch screen
    • Press "cancel job" on the touch screen
    • Repeat this process until all jobs have been removed.
