Description of Research Activities
- Information seeking behaviour of politically marginalized groups
This project seeks to determine the range of information sources used by individuals to meet their varying needs, and the relevance of libraries to this endeavour.
- Intellectual freedom and censorship - public libraries, school libraries, the Internet
The aim of this ongoing work is to explore issues and trends in complaints about the ideas and materials that have been made available through libraries and information technology such as the Internet.
- Philosophical foundations of library and information science
This project is an investigation of the core functions of the discipline, with an emphasis on formal definitions of library science, information science, information management, their conceptual antecedents, and concurrent terminology.
- Professional education for library and information studies
The goal is to identify appropriate competencies for entry level librarians and information specialists in a rapidly changing employment market.
