CAPPING EXERCISE

Instructor:
Programme Supervisor

Calendar Description:
The required capping exercise will be a World Wide Web version of the student's best work in the MLIS programme, and a reflective paper on the significance of the work. The capping exercise paper is to be submitted during the final term of course work.

Objectives:

Content:
The work must be chosen by the student in consultation with the programme supervisor. It must have the scope of a major paper or project, which is defined as a single piece of work worth at least 30% of the grade in the course for which it was done. The student will revise the work before submission, again in consultation with the programme supervisor. The accompanying reflective paper will explain the significance of the work to the student's programme and the field, and its relevance to the student's career goals; it may also suggest additional approaches to the work.

Method:
The selected work and the reflective paper will be submitted for adjudication by the student's programme supervisor. The School is responsible for uploading the student's capping exercise to its webserver and reserves the final right of determination of the suitability of the capping exercise for electronic publication.

Evaluation:
Students must register for LIS 600 during their final term of course work. In the event that a student finishes all other course work but has not registered for the capping exercise, LIS 600 will be the last course the student registers in. The deadline for submission of the Capping Exercise Agreement form shall be February 15 for spring convocation and July 1 for fall convocation. The deadline for submission of the capping exercise shall be March 15 for spring convocation and July 31 for fall convocation. The course is designated as credit/no credit. If the capping exercise is judged unsatisfactory by the student's programme supervisor, it will be considered by another faculty member selected by the Director. If the decision stands that the capping exercise is unsatisfactory, the student will be given the opportunity to revise and resubmit the HTML document, with guidance from the adjudicators.
