Welcome to the asphaltene standardization discussion web site.

At the 4th International Conference on “Petroleum Phase Behaviour and Fouling,” in Tronheim, Norway sentiments were expressed that research progress in this field is hindered by the complexity of petroleum fluids and a lack of “research standards” of how asphaltenes and other colloid-forming materials in petroleum are obtained and analyzed. As a result, a number of researchers agreed to initiate and maintain a forum for discussing these issues.
At the 5th “Petroleum Phase Behaviour and Fouling” Conference in Banff, Alberta a decision was made to continue the discussion and to return to the subject at the next conference to be held in Amsterdam in June 2005.
