Abstract
MOL Report Eleven (2022/2023) compiles 18 papers under three main themes: mathematical programming for mine design and mine planning; applications of artificial intelligence and simulation in mining optimization; and implementation of in-pit crushing and conveying (IPCC) in open pit mining. The volume highlights optimization, simulation, and intelligent decision-support methods for mining systems.
The first group of papers focuses on deterministic, stochastic, and mixed-integer programming approaches for mine design and mine planning, including production scheduling, uncertainty management, stockpiling, greenhouse gas mitigation, and long-term scheduling frameworks for sublevel caving and open stope mining. The second group examines artificial intelligence, simulation, machine learning, deep reinforcement learning, and agent-based approaches for truck dispatching, smart mining, blast analysis, and haulage-related decision support. The final group addresses IPCC implementation in open pit mining, including short-term planning, shovel allocation, and production-system improvements.
Together, the papers demonstrate MOL's continued emphasis on mine planning and design, simulation modeling of mining and industrial systems, and optimization, while showcasing contributions from faculty members, postdoctoral fellows, graduate students, and collaborators.
