Abstract

MOL Report Two (2009/2010) compiles 18 papers and presents research on mine planning and design together with optimization and simulation of mining systems. The volume highlights large-scale open-pit mine planning, grade uncertainty, oil sands mine and tailings planning, block cave production scheduling, haulage optimization, and discrete-event simulation methods for mining operations.

The report includes work on long-term open-pit production scheduling, multiple-destination scheduling, mining-cut generation using clustering and tabu search, short-term mine planning, transfer of grade uncertainty into mine planning, oil sands goal programming and composite tailings disposal, block cave production scheduling, hierarchical scheduling with discrete-event simulation, and simulation of coal terminals and processing systems. Together, the papers demonstrate MOL's continued emphasis on mine planning and design, simulation modeling of mining and industrial systems, and optimization.
